THOR Attends DDG 1001 Christening at Bath Iron Works, Maine
Arlington, VA – THOR Solutions, LLC, President & CEO, Mr. Johnny Walker, attended the christening ceremony of the Navy’s newest Zumwalt-class destroyer, Michael Monsoor. DDG 1001’s name honors the fallen Navy SEAL who leaped on a grenade to save others. Monsoor, a Sea, Air, and Land (SEAL)-qualified master-at-arms, second class, was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for valor in the 2006 Battle of Ramadi. He received the Silver Star and Bronze Star for heroism under fire on two earlier occasions in his 2006 deployment. Construction on DDG 1001, the second of the stealth destroyers, began in 2010. The ship is 610 feet long, and is the largest surface combatant in the U.S. Navy’s fleet, and has a planned crew size of 147, nearly half that required by a Arleigh Burke Class destroyer. The destroyer Michael Monsoor was christened at Bath Iron Works, Maine.
